Fugro

Responsible for leading the Marine Asset Integrity Global Business Line in Fugro, with key focus on transforming the business towards remote and autonomous solutions. Based in Leidschendam, The Netherlands, my responsibilities included:

  • Developing mid to long term vision and strategy for the Marine Asset Integrity business, encompasing the service lines of construction support, positioning, IRM, satellite positioning and monitoring, across all Fugro markets, with strategic focus on robotic and remote innovative solutions such as uncrewed vessels
  • Managing the Global Business Line leadership team of solution directors and experts, aimed at developing strategic pillars in line with the overarching global strategy of transforming marine operations to remote & autonomous
  • Setting up of Net Zero Marine Operations program, underpinning Fugro’s path to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2035
  • Setting up of transformational remote operations program, aimed at driving the change needed to allow vessel-based activities to be performed from onshore remote operation centres
  • Management of global investment portfolio for significant and strategic investments, focused on growing uncrewed vessel fleet, investing in critical net zero technologies
  • Management of innovation portfolio through development and prioritization of innovation roadmaps
  • Management of global ROV asset pool
  • Key highlight is the pioneering development of a market leading USV fleet, leading to the world’s first fully remote inspection of an offshore wind farm using a USV

Responsible for profit & loss, for commercial and operations for the Marine Asset Integrity business line in the area of operation. My role contained these key aspects:

  • Setting out regional strategy in line with global strategic pillars for Marine Asset Integrity, including service lines of construction support, positioning, IRM and monitoring, and communicating this across stakeholder groups
  • Managing Regional Business Line leadership team with service line managers and technical experts
  • Implementing growth of marine service portfolio to include IRM, ROVs and UXO ID & clearance services
  • Develop annual profit plans, which were consistently well above target
  • Develop commercial plan to grow and diversify the business in line with targets

  • acting as a bridge between business stakeholders and the Fugro-specific ERP solution ‘Avalon’

  • Operational integration of several aquired companies in area of responsibility
  • Control of all operational resources including project managers, field staff, survey, workshop, equipment allocation and purchasing
  • Planning of offshore staff to meet project demand

Underwater Surveys (Pty) Ltd was a marine survey company, operating mainly in Southern Africa. In 1998 it was acquired by Fugro NV, a Dutch listed company, and integrated into the Fugro Survey regional group of companies. My responsibilities included:

  • Processing & reporting of survey data, reports, GIS, working offshore and onshore
  • Project management and quality control of final product
  • Preparation of tenders and proposals, client contacts and marketing
